Ontario Population

Ontario is the one among the 13 Canadian Provinces. According to a survey, Ontario is the most populated province in Canada, which has about 38.3 percent of the total country population. Also, When comparing with the whole area, Ontario is the second Largest province, and also it’s the fourth largest jurisdiction in Canada. It has the most important cities, which are the City of Toronto and the Ottawa city. The officially spoken language of Ontario is English, and also other country languages are expressed in certain parts.

History

Before the arrival of the Europeans, Ojibwe, Cree, and Algonquin inhabited the northern and western region of Ontario. The Iroquois and Wyandot occupied the southern part. Later, the French start exploring the Ontario areas from the beginning of 15 th century. They are followed by British people, where they established posts near the Great Lakes.

Later in the 17th century, the trading was created for exporting the wood and other products from the province of Ontario. Numerous wars and dispute took place in Ontario from the 16th to the 19th century. Later, the Canada Confederation and Judicial Committee of the Privy Council has joined the northern and western Ontario regions with Canada.

The total Ontario population at the end of 2018 is 14,411,424 people. Ontario ranks first in the highly populated province of Canada. The population density is ranges about 14.65/km2.  The estimated population of Ontario at the end of 2019 is about 1.49 Crores.

Area

Ontario has a total area of about 1,076,395 km2 in which entire land cover about 917,741 km2 and the remaining space is covered by water about 158,654 km2.

Bordering

Hudson Bay and James Bay borders north of Ontario. Manitoba Province borders the West and Quebec Province borders the East of Ontario. The United States of America borders the entire southern region.

Language

The primary language spoken by the Ontario people is English and also the official language made by the government. According to a survey, more than 70 percent of people speak English. Also, a considerable amount of French-speaking people is present in the eastern and southern part of the Ontario province.

Four percent of Ontario people have French as a mother tongue, and 11 percent of people have both French and English as their mother tongue. Few other languages spoken are Korean, Tamil, Dutch, Arabic, Punjabi, Persian, and Polish.

Economy

Based on the production rate, Ontario province ranks first in leading manufacturer of products and also the biggest trading partner. Also, Ontario has a large number of advanced industries.

The rivers present in Ontario helps in the production of electric current using hydroelectricity projects. Also, 70 percent of electricity is produced through hydroelectric projects. In the upcoming years, the production rate tends to increase, utilizing both hydroelectric power plants and nuclear.

Geography

Canada has the most freshwater lakes and rivers around the world. But in Canada, Ontario province has more lakes and rivers comparing other provinces and territories. Some essential lakes and rivers present are Lake of the Woods, Great Lakes, Pigeon River, Rainy River, St. Marys River, St. Clair River, Detroit River, and Niagara River.

Based on the Conceptual, Ontario has two regions, the Northern Ontario and Southern Ontario.   On comparing the population, the southern part has higher population rate than northern Ontario. One primary reason for the lower community is the presence of dense forests, mountains, and extreme weathers. Also, people in southern Ontario enjoy a pleasant climate, freshwater lakes, and river.

Based on the land type, Ontario has three different geographical lands.

Canadian Shield – The north-western and central region of Ontario comes within the Canadian Shield region. The population density is very low due to less presence of agricultural lands. Also, most of the land region is covered with forests, mountains, and rivers.

Hudson Bay Lowlands – It’s shallow populated region present in the north part of Ontario. The main reason for the deficient population is due to extreme weather conditions. Also, Dense forest covers most of the land.

Southern Ontario – The region is covered by the divided into four major types Central Ontario,  Eastern Ontario, Golden Horseshoe, and Southwestern Ontario. Moreover, Southern Ontario is the most highly populated region comparing the other two areas. More than 94 percent of Ontario lives in the southern part. In Southern Ontario, the chance of finding mountains regions are likely to be less, So most land regions are uplands. Also, the highest point in southern Ontario is about 1650 ft.

Climatic Conditions

The entire climatic conditions of Ontario varies from season to season. Moreover, the land type also decides the climate for that particular region. Seasonal air also plays a significant role in changing the temperature from time to time. The north region faces cold, dry and arctic air which reduces the temperatures to extremely low.
